The Snowden Bridge annual spring yard sale took place earlier this month; and despite battling a bit of rain both days, the event’s turnout and participation still pulled through. Various yard sales were set up throughout each section of the community, and a steady stream of traffic could be seen perusing the sales on and off throughout the days. Saturday seemed to bring more people both buying and selling; but Sunday saw some participation as well.
Common items for sale throughout the community included various furniture and home décor, children’s clothes and toys, baby items, outdoor furniture, bikes, tools, books and more.
When speaking with neighbors who were selling, they each seemed happy to participate, and felt it was worth the effort overall. Several of them mentioned hoping they’d get a bit more traffic as the day went on, but that they were grateful to have been able to sell some unneeded items. I was also able to speak with some people shopping the sales; and they each excitedly told me about some of the good deals they had found. It wasn’t uncommon to see pickup trucks driving by, their beds loaded with various items that had just been purchased.
The community yard sales are generally done twice per year, once in the spring and then again in the fall, with the next one currently scheduled for October 25 & 26 of this year. The Snowden Bridge activities committee (or a resident wishing to help) generally handles scheduling and advertising for the event, which normally includes advertising in the local newspaper as well as on various local Facebook pages, as well as setting up yard sale signs throughout the community. Residents who would like to participate can simply set out items they’d like to sell in their driveway or yard on the day/s of the event.
