The walking trails within Snowden Bridge are just one of many things that make it a wonderful place to live. Offering scenic paths throughout the community, the trails see lots of regular use. But in addition to these, if you’re looking to expand your time spent outdoors to explore other nearby scenic hikes, keep reading. We’ve got a list of beautiful spots to check out, all within 30 miles of Snowden Bridge.
Sky Meadows State Park
About 25 miles from the community, Sky Meadows State Park in Delaplane offers 22 miles of hiking trails, nine miles of biking paths, over 10 miles of bridle paths, and access points to the Appalachian Trail. Various scenic loops, like Lost Mountain or Piedmont Overlook, are also found within the park, offering beautiful valley views. Bears Den
Part of the Appalachian Trail, Bears Den is known to be a fairly simple hike well worth doing to get to the gorgeous view at the Bears Den Overlook. Said to be particularly stunning at sunset, the overlook offers a perfect spot to take in impressive views of the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains. This must-do hiking trail can be found about 20 miles from Snowden Bridge in Bluemont, Virginia.
Raven Rocks
Close to the Bears Den trailhead, and also part of the Appalachian Trail, Raven Rocks is just over five miles out and back. More challenging than Bears Den, but also popular, this trail offers a 1,500-foot elevation gain – and crazy rewarding scenic ridge views.
Maryland Heights Loop
Offering panoramic views of the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers from the Maryland Heights Overlook, this historic loop in Harpers Ferry ranges from 4.5 to 6.5 miles round trip. Perfect for history buffs and fitness seekers alike, this moderate-to-strenuous hike passes Civil War fortifications and other parts of Harpers Ferry, allowing for an educational and enjoyable day out.
Tuscarora Trail to Eagle Rock
Just about 30 miles from Snowden Bridge, this family-friendly hike is about two miles round trip, with an elevation gain of about 390 feet. Considered easy to moderate, the hike is a section of the longer Tuscarora Trail that leads to the scenic Eagle Rock overlook, providing spectacular views of the Shenandoah Valley and surrounding mountains. There’s even a bench at the top to rest on while taking in the views!
